When it was completed in 1964, the Unilever House immediately became one of Hamburg's landmarks. Today, it is better known as the Emporio Tower, as the listed building was given a new lease of life between 2009 and 2012. During this revitalization, Bauwens was commissioned by Union Investment Real Estate to carry out all the individual interior work for the tenants. Following the conversion, the office tower now has 24 floors and is 98 meters high, corresponding to a floor space of 35,000 square meters.
Work began in spring 2011 on the first to seventh floors, which were occupied by the client itself. The premises were handed over on schedule at the end of the same year. By spring 2012, a total of 18,000 square meters of modernized office space had been completed on the other floors.
The revitalization also made the Emporio Tower more efficient: it was certified LEED Silver for its sustainable energy concept.
