The Cologne-based Althoff Group, renowned for its luxury hotels, commissioned Bauwens to build the new Urban Loft on Cologne's Eigelstein, on the former site of the Gaffel brewery. The project marked the first realization of the Urban Loft by Althoff urban hotel concept. The new 3-star brand is emotional, fresh, and urban. In addition to its central location, the focus was on very modern design. The rooms, ranging in size from 17 to 20 square meters, as well as the fitness and spa area, welcome guests with quality, space efficiency, selected art, and comfort.
The architectural planning for the project was carried out by the Bolles+Wilson architectural firm from Münster. The interior was planned over a long period of time and designed down to the last detail by star designers Markus Hilzinger and Isabella Hamann. High-quality materials, carefully selected art, and a well-thought-out lighting concept make a stay here a unique experience in the heart of the cathedral city.
The calculations and shell construction schedule were based on the company's own 3D model planning. Until summer 2018, Bauwens oversaw the extremely extensive and complex demolition of the former brewery and the technically demanding shoring work. In October 2018, Bauwens began the shell construction work as part of the turnkey construction of the hotel and ten condominiums in the extremely confined building situation at Eigelstein.
The new Urban Loft Hotel was completed in September 2020 and has been welcoming guests from all over the world ever since.
