Start of construction on the Hellerhöfe: Groundbreaking ceremony for new urban district in Frankfurt's Gallus neighborhood

Today's groundbreaking ceremony marks the official start of construction on the new Hellerhöfe urban district in Frankfurt's Gallus neighborhood. A mixed-use, urban district with a total of 542 apartments and 15,500 square meters of commercial space is being built on the approximately two-hectare site of the former headquarters of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (F.A.Z.) and the Frankfurter Gesellschaft für Bau, Kunst und Kultur (Frankfurter Societät).Frankfurter Societät, a mixed-use urban complex with a total of 542 apartments, 15,500 square meters of office space, and 3,500 square meters for retail and restaurants is being built.
To mark the start of construction , Mayor Mike Josef, Marcus Gwechenberger, Paul Bauwens-Adenauer (Bauwens) and Volker Breid (F.A.Z.) welcomed the guests. The speeches were followed by the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony. Afterwards, those involved gathered for drinks along Hellerhofstrasse.

"With the start of construction on Hellerhöfe, we are demonstrating that new construction is continuing in Frankfurt – even in very central areas such as here on the former F.A.Z. site in Gallus. over 500 new rental apartments, 30 percent of which are subsidized, are being built in a lively complex that combines living, working, and social infrastructure," said Marcus Gwechenberger, Head of Planning. "Frankfurt is committed to creating new living space with private and public partners. A total of around 10,000 apartments are currently under construction in our city."
Paul Bauwens-Adenauer, Managing Partner of Bauwens, emphasized in his speech: "The Hellerhöfe represent a new generation of urban complexes: mixed, sustainable, and with a clear focus on quality of life. We are delighted to be working with the City of Frankfurt and our partners to help shape a piece of urban development that will have a long-term impact."
Volker Breid, Managing Director of F.A.Z., added: "The former newspaper district will once again be dedicated to neighborhood living. The first residential buildings of F.A.Z. have already been completed on Frankenallee. We are delighted to now also be involved in the long-term development of the Hellerhöfe and would like to thank the companies involved and the city of Frankfurt for their constructive cooperation."
